Carry-on luggage with a vanity case
A vanity case gives makeup, skincare and small things their own hard-sided home, so they are not buried under your clothes. Here is what to check before you buy a carry-on that comes with one.
Check how the two pieces travel together
A vanity case is only handy if you are not carrying it in your other hand all day. Look for a strap on the back of the case that slips over the suitcase's trolley handle. On The Weekender Set the vanity case has exactly that: the strap goes over the extended handle and the case rides on top of the carry-on as you roll. When you need it, lift it off and carry it by its two top handles.
Know both sets of dimensions
The carry-on measures 55 × 34 × 22 cm (21.6 × 13.4 × 8.66 in) including its wheels, which is within the 22 × 14 × 9 in limit many US airlines use for domestic flights (see Delta and American). The vanity case is 30 × 30 × 16 cm (11.8 × 11.8 × 6.3 in).
If you want to bring both on board, the vanity case usually has to count as your personal item. Personal-item limits differ more between airlines than carry-on limits do, so compare 11.8 × 11.8 × 6.3 in with your airline's current rule before you fly.
Why a hard case instead of a pouch
A soft cosmetic bag gets squeezed when the suitcase is full. A hard-shell case keeps its shape, so compacts, palettes and glass bottles are not pressed against your shoes. Both pieces of The Weekender Set share the same wave-textured hard shell, so they also match.
What goes where
- Vanity case: makeup, skincare, brushes, jewelry, chargers, medication, anything you reach for during the trip.
- Carry-on: clothes and shoes. It opens into two halves: one with a zip divider panel, the other with cross straps that buckle closed.
If the vanity case goes through airport security with you, the liquids inside still follow the TSA liquids rule, so keep them together where they are easy to take out.
